
New Delhi, May 22: In a significant move against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Commissioner from the Food and Supply Department for accepting bribes. The accused was stationed at the Food and Supply Department office located in Asian Market, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi.
According to information provided by the CBI, a case was registered on May 20 after receiving complaints about the officer soliciting bribes in exchange for the allocation and distribution of ration cards. It was alleged that he demanded an illegal amount of ₹100 for each ration card.
A total of 475 ration cards were supposed to be allocated to various nearby shops, including approximately 120 cards for the complainant’s shop. Based on this, the accused officer requested a bribe of around ₹12,000 from the complainant.
Following the complaint, the CBI initiated an investigation and set up a trap. On May 21, the CBI team conducted a sting operation, during which the Assistant Commissioner was caught red-handed while demanding a bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot.
The CBI stated that further investigations are ongoing, and they are probing other aspects related to this entire network. The agency reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and urged the public to report any instances of bribery or corruption involving government officials.
