Madhya Pradesh Opposition Leader Urges Continuation of PESA Mobilizers Services

Bhopal, May 22: The Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, has urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to ensure the ongoing services of PESA mobilizers appointed for the implementation of the PESA Act.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Yadav, Singhar highlighted that mobilizers were appointed under the Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas Act of 1996 (PESA Act) for effective execution in the state. However, he noted that the state government has terminated these services without budgetary provisions.

Singhar expressed concern that this decision would adversely affect operations in tribal districts across the state. He pointed out that the mobilizers were appointed during the Shivraj Singh Chouhan administration, with formal initiation by the President on November 15, 2022.

The Opposition Leader has called on the Chief Minister to make a concrete decision regarding the continuation of these services, considering the effective implementation of the PESA Act and the welfare of nearly five thousand mobilizers.

He criticized the state government for abruptly ending thousands of jobs for these mobilizers, who were instrumental in filling out forms for various government schemes at the grassroots level. Singhar lamented that these individuals, who may have taken loans to support their families or invested in their children’s education, are now facing dire circumstances due to the government’s insensitivity.

He further questioned whether the government intends to replace these mobilizers with individuals affiliated with the RSS. While the BJP government may view this as merely a statistical issue, for thousands of families, this decision is devastating.
