Hyderabad, May 22: K.T. Rama Rao, the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accused Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, of conspiring to protect Bandi Bhagirath, an accused in a POCSO case.
During a press conference, KTR stated that the crime of providing shelter to the POCSO accused for nine days directly implicates Chief Minister KCR, who oversees the Home Department. He responded to comments made by the Chief Minister regarding the case, alleging that the government intimidated the victim’s family, filed counter-cases against them, and shielded the accused for nine days.
KTR questioned whether the state government subjected the minor victim to mental harassment by keeping her at the police station until midnight while she sought justice with her parents. He claimed that the accused was arrested only after the state High Court denied him bail.
KTR also criticized the Chief Minister’s statement that police were busy due to the Prime Minister’s visit. He asked, “Does the Prime Minister’s visit mean that KCR’s associates can commit crimes openly while the government protects them? Is the government not ashamed to make such excuses?”
The BRS leader mentioned that his party had refrained from politicizing the sensitive issue of the minor girl until the Chief Minister made accusations. He demanded clarification from KCR on whether there is any precedent in the country where a POCSO accused was protected from arrest for nine days.
KTR alleged that the close ties between Union Minister Bandi Sanjay and Chief Minister KCR led to the accused being hidden. Reports suggest that the accused was kept in a hospital linked to KCR for nine days, which he believes warrants investigation.
He challenged both Bandi Sanjay and KCR to disclose the name of the person who allegedly conspired against the victim’s family, claiming they were involved in a “honey trap.” KTR also pointed out the contradiction in Bandi Sanjay’s claims regarding his relationship with his son, stating that he cannot simultaneously assert he has no connection while also claiming he turned his son over to the police.
He called for accountability from media outlets that propagated “honey trap” narratives and those allegedly pressuring them. KTR accused KCR and Bandi Sanjay of personally contacting several media institutions to suppress news related to the case.
