Indore, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran News): After the shocking incidents of rats attacking infants at Indore’s MY Hospital, a fresh case of rodent menace has surfaced—this time at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport. On Tuesday, a passenger waiting to board his flight was bitten by a rat inside the departure hall.

The victim, Arun Modi, a software developer from Hyderabad working in an IT firm, had arrived with his wife to board IndiGo flight 6E 6739 to Bengaluru. While resting on a recliner, a rat crawled into his trousers and bit him behind the knee. Panic followed as airport staff rushed him to the medical room for first aid. However, to his shock, the facility did not have a rabies injection.

Arun later told reporters that he had to get a prescription from the airport doctor and managed to receive a rabies shot only after landing in Bengaluru. He also alleged that even tetanus injection was initially unavailable until the airport manager intervened.

This incident has highlighted serious lapses in both hygiene and basic medical facilities at Indore Airport, which recently ranked third in the national Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey. Earlier complaints by passengers included sightings of rats near food counters, mosquito and cockroach infestations, stray dogs on the premises, and unhygienic washrooms.

Airport Director Vipinkant Seth confirmed the incident, stating that immediate treatment was given, though there was a delay in administering injections. He said pest control had been carried out 15 days ago and was repeated again after the incident. Cages have also been placed, and staff have been instructed to ensure better passenger facilities.

The case comes just weeks after two infants in MY Hospital’s NICU died following rat bites, triggering outrage and a suo moto notice by the High Court. Together, these incidents have cast a shadow on Indore’s much-publicised claim as India’s “cleanest city” for eight years in a row.
