Who is Anukul Roy? Rising Star in Indias A Team for Tri-Series

Mumbai, May 21: Anukul Roy has been selected for India’s A team for the upcoming triangular ODI series against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. This series is scheduled to take place from July 9 to 21 in Sri Lanka. The all-rounder replaces Harsh Dubey, who has been chosen for the national Test and ODI teams against Afghanistan.

Born on November 30, 1998, Anukul is currently playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). A left-arm spinner and aggressive lower-order batsman, he played a crucial role in leading India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. Notably, he took five wickets for just 14 runs in 6.5 overs against Papua New Guinea (PNG).

During the Under-19 World Cup, Anukul was among the top wicket-takers, finishing with 14 wickets. In the final against Australia, he claimed two wickets for only 32 runs.

For his outstanding performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26, Anukul was named ‘Player of the Tournament,’ amassing 18 wickets and scoring 303 runs that season.

In addition to his bowling and batting skills, Anukul is renowned for his exceptional fielding. At one point, the Mumbai Indians included him in their squad due to his impressive fielding abilities.

Anukul made his first-class and List A debut for Jharkhand in 2018. He later got the opportunity to play in the T20 format in 2019.

In the 2018 IPL, the Mumbai Indians acquired Anukul for ₹2 million, but he did not get a chance to play that season. In IPL 2019, he was retained and played one match, where he took one wicket for just 11 runs in two overs.

For IPL 2022, KKR signed Anukul for ₹2 million, and he played three seasons at that price. In IPL 2022, he took one wicket in two matches. The following year, he played four matches, taking three wickets and scoring 23 runs.

In IPL 2024, Anukul played four matches but did not take any wickets. Nevertheless, KKR continued to trust him. In IPL 2025, KKR invested ₹4 million in him, but he played only one match, where he took one wicket. In IPL 2026, Anukul played 13 matches, taking eight wickets at an average of 29.75, and scored 43 runs with a strike rate of 138.70. He played a crucial role in securing a victory against Rajasthan Royals, scoring 29 runs off 16 balls with three boundaries.

Looking at his first-class performance, Anukul has taken 141 wickets in 46 matches and scored 1,834 runs at an average of 27.37, including four centuries and seven half-centuries.

In 61 List A matches, Anukul has claimed 59 wickets and scored 1,279 runs, including eight half-centuries. In 83 first-class matches, he has taken 64 wickets and scored 1,003 runs.
