Valsad, May 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to India after a successful five-day foreign trip. During his visit, he engaged in bilateral talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As a token of goodwill, PM Modi presented the UAE President with a special gift of Gujarat’s renowned Kesar mangoes.
This gesture has created a wave of excitement among mango producers across Gujarat, particularly in Valsad. While Valsad is already famous for its Hapus mango exports, the Kesar mango is now anticipated to gain a new identity in the international market.
Farmers express that this gift symbolizes not only the cordial relations between the two nations but also brings a new ray of hope for Gujarat’s agricultural community. The Kesar mango is a pride of Gujarat’s agricultural heritage. Its unique sweetness, captivating aroma, golden color, and long shelf life make it popular both domestically and internationally.
Farmer Rajesh Patel shared, “The gift from PM Modi is not just fruit; it embodies our hard work and the essence of Gujarat’s soil. We now hope for increased demand for Kesar mangoes in the UAE and other Gulf countries.”
He noted that the extensive coverage of this news in international media would enhance the global branding of Gujarat’s agricultural products.
Another farmer, Dharmendra Singh Chauhan, remarked, “India boasts over 1,000 varieties of mangoes, but the Kesar mango stands out as a Geographical Indication (GI) tagged variety due to its unique characteristics. This fruit is not only delicious but also rich in nutrition. PM Modi consistently showcases India’s traditional products and GI-tagged items during his foreign visits, aligning with the ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.”
He added that farmers believe such gifts boost Indian agricultural exports. Currently, India is the world’s largest mango producer, yet there remains significant potential for export growth. Improved marketing of Kesar mangoes could enhance farmers’ incomes. This gift is seen as a symbol of Indian culture, hospitality, and agricultural prosperity. PM Modi’s initiative is not only a diplomatic success but also an inspiration for millions of mango producers in the country. Farmers are now hopeful that Gujarat’s Kesar mango will soon spread its sweetness in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other international markets.
