Mumbai, May 21: Xiaomi has launched a new addition to its Mijia smart home range in China, focusing on kitchen water filtration. The Mijia Water Purifier 2 1600G is designed for households seeking faster water output, lower maintenance, and cleaner drinking water without a hefty price tag.
One of the standout features is the impressive 1600G flow rate, which allows for noticeably quicker water dispensing compared to older under-sink RO systems. Xiaomi claims the purifier employs a dual-core precision filtration system capable of eliminating up to 145 different contaminants, including heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, and various organic pollutants.
The company is also highlighting the long-term ownership costs. The RO filter is rated for up to seven years of use, significantly longer than many conventional home RO systems typically advertise.
Additionally, Xiaomi has upgraded the purifier with “Zero Stagnant Water 3.0” technology. This innovation aims to minimize leftover water sitting inside the system between uses, enhancing freshness and hygiene.
The purifier reportedly meets what Xiaomi describes as “mother-and-baby-grade” healthy water standards, ensuring BPA-free water output without added scale inhibitors. This positions the product towards families and health-conscious consumers.
Efficiency is another key focus. Xiaomi asserts that the system complies with China’s highest national water-efficiency standard, achieving a water purification rate of up to 68.1%, which reduces wastewater compared to many traditional RO units.
Like other recent Mijia appliances, the purifier is expected to integrate seamlessly with the Mi Home ecosystem. Users will be able to monitor filter life, water quality, and receive maintenance reminders through the app.
Pricing details reveal that the purifier is set at 1,999 yuan (approximately €250 at the current exchange rate), but national subsidies lower the effective price to around 1,799 yuan.
Xiaomi has been aggressively expanding into smart home appliances in recent years. This product exemplifies the company’s commitment to practical household hardware beyond its traditional focus on phones and wearables. In China, water purifiers have become a highly competitive market as consumers increasingly prioritize water quality and long-term operational costs.
