
Koppal, May 21: A horrific road accident occurred in Koppal district, Karnataka, on Thursday. A tipper truck collided head-on with a motorcycle on the National Highway 365 bypass near Adur-Rajur village in the Kuknur taluka, resulting in the immediate deaths of two motorcyclists.
The victims have been identified as Basanna Googeri (55) and Shankarappa Sutarrotti (48), both residents of Balutigi village in the Yalburga taluka. They were riding the motorcycle at the time of the incident.
According to police reports, a heavy truck carrying cement from the town of Akkialur in the Haveri district struck the motorcycle that was heading towards Kuknur. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was completely crushed, and both riders were caught under the truck’s wheels. Excessive bleeding led to their deaths at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, Mallappa, was heavily intoxicated, which contributed to the accident. Police have arrested the driver at the scene.
Upon receiving the news, Kuknur police officials arrived promptly. CPI Maunesh Badgeri and PSI S.P. Naik inspected the site. A case has been registered at the Kuknur police station, and further investigations are underway.
Local residents have expressed concerns about the frequent high-speed traffic on this highway, leading to a rise in accidents. There are increasing calls for enhanced road safety measures in the area.
The tragic news has sent waves of grief through the families of the victims. The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and have informed the relatives.
