Kolkata Police Takes Firm Stance Against JCB Use in Victory Processions

Kolkata, May 6: In the wake of violence following the election results in West Bengal, Kolkata Police has adopted a stringent approach. Police Commissioner Ajay Nand clarified on Wednesday that the use of JCB machines in victory processions is strictly prohibited. Legal action will be taken against those renting out these machines.

During a press conference at the Lalbazar police headquarters, Nand reported that approximately 80 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence that erupted in various parts of the city after the elections. He warned that strict measures will continue against those involved in the unrest.

The Commissioner urged citizens to stay away from rumors, emphasizing that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility. He also stated that action will be taken against police personnel who show negligence in their duties.

“Voting was peaceful, and there were no major incidents of violence. It is now essential to maintain peace. No one should pay attention to rumors,” he said.

He issued a stern warning against any provocative or excessive activities, making it clear that no victory procession can take place without police permission.

According to police reports, 65 companies are still deployed in several sensitive areas of the city. The state police and central forces are working together to control the situation. Since the announcement of the election results, nearly 80 individuals have been arrested for vandalism and violence.

Notably, the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were declared last Monday, marking a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party, which ended the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress government.

Following the results, sporadic incidents of violence, vandalism, and assaults have been reported in various parts of the state. In Kolkata’s New Market area, a JCB was used to damage the Trinamool Congress party office and several shops. In light of these events, the police have issued a strong warning and are taking decisive action.
