Assam Police Crack Down on Rehab Center Abuse, Two Arrested

Bishwanath, June 5: Assam police have taken decisive action following the circulation of a disturbing video on social media. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with allegations of assault and mistreatment of patients at a drug rehabilitation center.

SSP Ajgavaran Basumatari reported that the video surfaced on Wednesday, showing incidents of violence against patients at two separate rehab centers. One was located in Khushgaon, while the other was the Pratigya Wellness Center in Madhopur, both operating to assist individuals in overcoming addiction. The severity of the situation prompted an immediate investigation.

Following the video’s release, directives were issued to the DSP headquarters, leading to a team being dispatched to both locations. Collaborating with officials from the district social welfare department, police action was initiated, resulting in the detention of two suspects. However, several other accused individuals remain at large, and efforts to locate them are ongoing. Authorities have assured that all fugitives will be apprehended soon, with no one being spared from accountability.

The SSP emphasized that, given the seriousness of the allegations, a thorough investigation of the involved rehab centers is underway. Authorities are assessing whether these facilities were operating in compliance with regulations. Should any violations or irregularities be discovered, strict action will be taken, including the potential closure of the centers.

He also stated that treatment for patients at rehab centers must adhere to medical guidelines. Any form of violence or inhumane treatment towards patients is completely unacceptable. Regular inspections by police, magistrates, and medical professionals are conducted to ensure that appropriate care is being provided.

SSP Basumatari confirmed that the investigation has been expedited based on the viral video, and the identities of all individuals involved have been established. The police have pledged to apprehend all suspects and fully resolve the case shortly.
