Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Advocates for New Colleges and Enhanced Education Quality

Bhopal, June 5: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the need for new colleges in urban areas of Madhya Pradesh to meet the demand for higher education. He suggested implementing a shift system in densely populated regions where student enrollment increases. The establishment of a State Accreditation Council (SAC), modeled after the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), is also proposed. The focus will be on job-oriented courses, as the upcoming year is designated as the Year of Youth, prompting the initiation of new programs and projects in collaboration with relevant departments for student welfare.

Dr. Yadav expressed satisfaction with the introduction of undergraduate agricultural programs, which have successfully engaged over 20,000 students in the state. He congratulated the higher education department for this achievement.

During a review meeting at the secretariat, the Chief Minister was joined by Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar, Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi, and other senior officials. He stressed the importance of continuous improvement in the quality of higher education. Concrete efforts are to be made in PM Shri colleges, as well as ensuring smooth operations in all government colleges.

The meeting highlighted the launch of a three-year BBA aviation course in Indore, Ujjain, and Chitrakoot. Additionally, the establishment of Indian Knowledge Tradition Cells in universities and colleges has been initiated, with 384 research centers currently operational. Last year, 83 new research centers were established, and plans are in place to create 100 more in the near future. The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in the state has seen a significant increase of 1.8%, surpassing the national growth rate of 1.1%.

The Chief Minister urged the inclusion of relevant subjects at Raja Shankar Shah University in Chhindwara, assuring that the state government would provide necessary financial support, particularly for courses in food processing, architecture, and agricultural sciences.

The higher education department is increasingly utilizing information technology. Madhya Pradesh achieved the highest number of registrations on the Self-Registration Portal, with over 352,931 registrations in July 2025. As of July 2026, this number has reached 273,266. New universities have been established in Guna, Khargone, and Sagar, along with a law college in Agar Malwa. Eight colleges in the state have launched PG classes across 28 subjects, and 618 higher education institutions have registered on the Government of India’s “One Nation-One Subscription” portal.

Over 800,000 students and researchers have utilized this portal, placing Madhya Pradesh at the forefront of this initiative. In the field of mental health, 5,000 faculty and staff have received training, with 71,705 students participating in morale sessions. A calendar for academic and cultural activities has been released for the period from July to March.

Special committees of experts have been formed to implement the Indian Knowledge Tradition and the National Education Policy 2020. Fifty-five government colleges have been upgraded to Prime Minister Colleges of Excellence, enhancing various facilities.

Innovations include the establishment of digital studios in ten divisional headquarters. E-content is being provided through the E-Gyan Setu channel, which includes materials in Hindi and regional languages such as Bundeli, Bagheli, and Malvi. A mobile app for e-admission has been launched, and attendance tracking is facilitated through the Sarthak app. Universities are connected via the Samarth software, and AVG labs are being set up in eight colleges to support animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics.

With the collaboration of IIT Delhi, 68 colleges are offering AI courses, and processes have begun for studying non-Hindi Indian languages. During the Sadhana Week, the higher education department achieved second place in performance on the I-GOT Karmayogi portal.
