Bhopal, June 5: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of completing the next phases of the metro rail project in Bhopal and Indore on schedule. He stated that the metro rail system is a boon for densely populated areas, facilitating easy movement for working citizens. To increase ridership in both cities, collaboration with the tourism department is essential.
During a review meeting at the ministry, CM Yadav provided necessary directives regarding the metro rail projects in Bhopal and Indore. Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, along with State Minister for Urban Development and Housing Pratima Bagri and Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, attended the meeting.
Yadav noted that the metropolitan areas of Indore and Bhopal are developing rapidly. Enhanced arrangements for students and citizens to visit major religious sites, tourist attractions, archaeological heritage sites, and tiger reserves will likely increase metro rail usage. The tourism department and the Madhya Pradesh Science and Technology Council (Mepcast) will play crucial roles in these efforts.
The meeting revealed that Phase 1 of the Bhopal metro rail project, from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, is set to commence operations in December 2025, covering 7.1 kilometers with eight elevated stations. Phase 2, extending from Subhash Nagar to Karond Chauraha, is expected to be completed by June 2028, featuring six elevated and two underground stations. Phase 3 will cover a length of 14.16 kilometers from Bhadbhada Chauraha to Ratnagiri Chauraha, with 13 elevated stations, and is also slated for completion within the next two years.
Regarding the Indore metro rail project, Phase 1’s Reach 1 from Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor 3 has already begun operations as of May 2025, spanning 5.26 kilometers. The work on Reach 2, from Super Corridor 3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha, is nearly complete at 11.43 kilometers. Phase 2 includes Reach 1 from Shaheed Baghicha to Khajrana Chauraha, and Reach 2 from the airport to Gandhi Nagar, both expected to finish by June 2028. Phase 3 will cover 11.59 kilometers from Khajrana Chauraha to the airport.
The meeting also discussed future plans for flyover constructions, metro rail, and road development in the cities.
