Guwahati, June 5: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has completed the process of forming his new government by announcing the names of 12 legislators. These legislators are set to take their oaths as cabinet ministers today.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Sarma revealed that Ashwini Rai, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Bora, Biswajit Daimary, Jayant Malla Barua, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Neelima Devi, Piyush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu, and Susanta Borgohain will be sworn in at a ceremony scheduled for 12:45 PM.
With this oath-taking, the total number of ministers in the council will rise to 17, including the Chief Minister and four ministers who were previously included: Ajanta Neog, Rameshwar Teli, Atul Bora, and Charan Borah.
A notable feature of the new cabinet is the BJP’s decision to rely on its experienced team. Leaders such as Ashok Singhal, Piyush Hazarika, Jayant Malla Barua, Ranoj Pegu, Bimal Bora, and Keshab Mahanta, who held significant responsibilities in the previous government, have once again secured positions in the cabinet. This indicates the government’s intent to maintain continuity in development through seasoned leaders.
Additionally, BJP legislators Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul from the Barak Valley region have retained their cabinet seats, having been appointed during the previous government’s expansion.
Four new faces will also join the council for the first time: Ashwini Rai, Biswajit Daimary, Neelima Devi, and Susanta Borgohain. Former Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary has also been given a cabinet position. The inclusion of these new members is seen as an effort to strengthen regional, social, and political representation.
However, some former ministers will not be part of the new cabinet. Chandramohan Patowary, Jogen Mohan, and Urkhao Gwra Brahma have been excluded this time. Meanwhile, Ranjit Kumar Das, who served as a minister in the previous government, has been entrusted with the role of Assembly Speaker.
