
Bhopal, June 5: Governor Mangubhai Patel emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts for sickle cell eradication as World Sickle Cell Day approaches on June 19. He directed the Departments of Public Health, Family Welfare, and AYUSH to conduct eradication activities with greater urgency.
The Governor highlighted the need for screening, treatment, distribution of cards and medications, and awareness programs about the disease. He stated that the commitment to eradicate sickle cell disease must remain unwavering until the goal is achieved. Special monitoring of eradication and treatment efforts in tribal-dominated areas is essential.
Governor Patel made these remarks during a discussion with officials from the Public Health, Family Welfare, and AYUSH departments at Lok Bhavan. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla and AYUSH Minister Inder Singh Parmar were also present.
He instructed that every Tuesday, Anganwadi centers should provide mothers and children with information regarding sickle cell anemia, including its causes, symptoms, and treatments. The Governor reviewed district-wise efforts in sickle cell eradication by the health and AYUSH departments. Detailed information on screening, medication distribution, and other initiatives was shared with him. The AYUSH department also provided updates on medicine distribution, counseling, treatment, and ongoing communication with patients. Governor Patel urged the AYUSH department to gather feedback from patients regarding treatment efforts.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sickle cell eradication, noting that Madhya Pradesh is at the forefront of national efforts in this regard. He praised the meaningful actions taken by relevant departments towards this goal and congratulated all senior officials and field staff involved in the eradication efforts. Additional Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar Barnwal informed the Governor about the proposed events in Khandwa district for World Sickle Cell Day.
The meeting was attended by Tribal Cell Chairman Deepak Khandekar, the Governor’s Principal Secretary Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari, AYUSH Secretary Shobhit Jain, Tribal Cell Secretary Meenakshi Singh, and senior officials from the Public Health, Family Welfare, and AYUSH departments.
