
Kanpur, March 9: In a significant development, police in Kanpur apprehended a key suspect involved in the murder of a salesman during an encounter on Monday. The accused had been evading arrest since the incident, which occurred at a local liquor store.
According to police officials, the tragic event took place on February 25, when Uday Singh, the salesman working at the liquor shop in Bhavani Pur, was fatally assaulted. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, prompting police to register a case and initiate an investigation.
To track down the suspects, multiple police teams were formed under the leadership of ACP Ghatampur. They were actively searching for leads. On Monday, while conducting a checking operation on the Bithun-Sachinadi road, officers spotted a suspicious individual on a motorcycle. When the police signaled him to stop, the suspect attempted to flee and opened fire at the officers. In the ensuing exchange, the accused, identified as Chotu, alias Nisar, from Fatehpur, was shot and injured.
Police recovered a firearm and the motorcycle from the arrested suspect. During interrogation, it was revealed that he has a criminal history, with approximately six cases of robbery and theft registered against him. Authorities are currently questioning him to gather information about other individuals involved in the murder.
DCP Dipendra Nath Chaudhary stated that the police are diligently pursuing leads in the case of the salesman’s death at the liquor store. The injured suspect is receiving treatment at the district hospital, while police continue to search for his accomplices.
