Acknowledging Ashish Nehras Impact on Gujarat Titans Bowlers: Sanjay Bangar

Ahmedabad, May 13: Former Indian cricket all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has emphasized the significant influence of head coach Ashish Nehra on the bowlers of Gujarat Titans. Bangar stated that Nehra deserves credit for transforming the team’s bowling unit into one of the strongest in IPL 2026.

In a conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, Bangar remarked, “You must recognize Ashish Nehra’s impact. He influences the bowlers through his leadership. Many bowlers, like Siraj, played alongside him during their careers’ early stages in 2017-18. At that time, he was not the same Mohammad Siraj we see today. Kagiso Rabada is also enjoying his time with GT right now.”

Bangar attributed Rabada’s improved performance to Nehra’s guidance. “We should not forget his outstanding seasons in 2019 and 2020. After that, he faced a dip in form. However, under Nehra’s leadership, his performance has improved. Nehra extracts the best from Rabada. Mohit is another example who has performed exceptionally well under him. Mohammad Shami excelled in 2023, and Jason Holder is doing well this season,” he added.

Bangar noted, “I believe his focus is primarily on bowling with a Test-match length. He always emphasizes this. Even when we worked together on broadcasts, he frequently highlighted this point. Clearly, this is an influence that Ashish doesn’t receive enough credit for. We should acknowledge it. He has a way of bringing out the best in his fast bowlers.”

The Gujarat Titans bowlers are performing remarkably in IPL 2026. As of the match between Gujarat and SRH, five of the top eleven bowlers in the season are from Gujarat. Rabada has taken 21 wickets in 12 matches, Rashid Khan has 16 in 12 matches, Prasidh Krishna has 14 in 8 matches, Jason Holder has 13 in 6 matches, and Siraj has 13 in 12 matches. The success of these bowlers is undoubtedly linked to Ashish Nehra’s experience and expertise. Thanks to these outstanding bowlers, GT currently leads the points table with 16 points.
