Ahmedabad, May 13: In a recent IPL 2026 match at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, the Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 82 runs. This significant loss caused SRH to drop from first to third place in the standings, adversely affecting their net run rate. Following the defeat, head coach Daniel Vettori addressed the media, stating that every team faces such challenges during the tournament.
During the post-match press conference, Vettori remarked, “We knew we needed a strong start, but we failed to achieve that. If they had scored 200 runs, we would have known it would be very difficult. However, with a target of 169 runs, we had a chance. Unfortunately, we could not capitalize on that. I don’t want to blame the batsmen; they have performed well this season. Every team encounters minor setbacks at times, and we faced difficulties in this match.”
Vettori acknowledged that GT took advantage of their poor start and executed excellent bowling. He noted that they were aware of the challenges posed by their fast bowlers and Rashid Khan.
In terms of match performance, Gujarat Titans batted first, scoring 168 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 61 runs and Washington Sundar’s 50 runs. In response, SRH’s batting lineup collapsed, managing only 86 runs in 14.5 overs, resulting in an 82-run defeat.
For GT, Kagiso Rabada took 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs, while Jason Holder also claimed 3 wickets for just 20 runs in 4 overs. Prasidh Krishna contributed with 2 wickets for 23 runs in 3 overs, and both Siraj and Rashid secured 1 wicket each.
