New Delhi, May 13: India’s ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative has been highlighted in a recent post on the official X account of Indian diplomacy. The post emphasizes the commitment to support partner countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, rooted in the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
Accompanying the post is a video that showcases the longstanding collaboration between India and Africa, referencing the India-Africa Forum Summit and the enduring partnership shared vision. The video illustrates how, in 2020, when the world was grappling with the pandemic and facing a severe vaccine shortage, India took the lead in providing assistance.
The video underscores that ‘Vaccine Maitri’ symbolizes India’s responsibility to the world and its humanitarian spirit. India delivered over 40 million doses of Made-in-India vaccines to 42 African nations, including Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Mauritius, Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and many others.
It also highlights that during the most challenging times of the pandemic, India prioritized the needs of other countries, not just its own citizens. The message of “Stronger Together at Every Step” conveys that the relationship between India and Africa extends beyond diplomacy, founded on mutual trust and cooperation.
In the video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses pride and humility that Indian-made vaccines are reaching countries worldwide. He stated, “We aim to provide not just treatment but also support for humanity.”
