Lisa Ray Speaks Out on Mental Health: Seeking Help is a Sign of Strength

Mumbai, May 13: Mental health has become a significant issue in today’s fast-paced world. The pressures of work, strained relationships, and feelings of loneliness are affecting many individuals. However, several people are now openly discussing mental health. Actress Lisa Ray has shared important insights during Mental Health Awareness Month.

On Instagram, Lisa posted clips of her character, Samara Kapoor, from the web series “Four More Shots Please!” In the series, her character grapples with bipolar disorder.

In her caption, Lisa wrote, “Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us that mental treatment is not an easy process, and every person’s story matters. Sometimes, a person feels great, and other times, they suddenly break down. My character Samara Kapoor attempts to portray this emotional rollercoaster.”

She further explained, “Samara Kapoor’s story reflects the lives of thousands battling mental health issues. The character illustrates the constant emotional fluctuations experienced by someone with bipolar disorder. One moment, they feel immense joy, and the next, they plunge into deep sadness. Often, they may feel isolated and insecure.”

Lisa noted, “Some scenes in the series were so realistic that they moved me to tears. Samara’s sudden anger, impulsive decisions, and emotional breakdowns in relationships were depicted with authenticity. Many people hide their struggles for fear of being perceived as weak by society.”

The actress emphasized that mental illness does not define a person. She stated, “If someone is dealing with a mental health issue, it does not mean they are weak or unworthy of love. Such individuals need understanding, compassion, and support the most. Family, friends, proper treatment, therapy, and open conversations greatly aid in improving mental health.”

Lisa urged everyone to check on those around them, as many may appear smiling on the outside while feeling broken inside. Asking for help when needed is never a sign of weakness; rather, it is a testament to courage and wisdom.
