Three TMC Leaders Arrested in Burdwan District, BJP Accuses TMC of Shielding Criminals

Kolkata, May 13: In a significant political development, police in the Burdwan district of West Bengal have arrested three brothers linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on serious criminal charges. This incident has sparked a new political controversy in the region. BJP legislator Krishna Ghosh has accused the TMC of providing protection to criminal elements.

The arrested individuals include local TMC leader Babulal Sheikh, youth TMC leader Kochi Sheikh, and Chhattu Sheikh. They were apprehended by officials at the Katwa police station. Police sources confirm that all three are family members. Before being presented in local court on Wednesday, they were taken to Katwa sub-divisional hospital for mandatory medical examinations.

According to police officials, multiple cases have been registered against the accused under various serious provisions of India’s newly enacted Criminal Code, the Indian Penal Code (BNS). Investigators allege that this group has long been involved in intimidating residents and asserting their influence, creating an atmosphere of fear among the local populace.

Reports indicate that police have requested custody of the accused for further investigation. These arrests have heightened political tensions in Katwa, with opposition leaders trading sharp accusations. Newly elected BJP legislator Krishna Ghosh reiterated his claims against the TMC, stating, “Such anti-social elements thrived during the Trinamool regime. They are alleged to have received protection from the ruling establishment. Now, the administration is fulfilling its duty, and legal action will be taken against the accused.”

Meanwhile, the families of the accused have denied all allegations, asserting that the three have been falsely implicated in politically motivated cases. They claim that the police had sent summons to the accused before formally arresting them. This incident has ignited a broader debate in local political circles, and the police continue their investigation into the matter.
