
Bengaluru, May 23: Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai have secured their spots in the semifinals of the National Physical Disability Cricket Championship. Maharashtra and Haryana showcased impressive performances to advance from Group A, while Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai qualified from Group B.
The semifinals will take place on Saturday at the Sports Garden Ground in Bengaluru. The first semifinal will feature Mumbai facing off against Maharashtra, while the second semifinal will see Haryana take on Uttar Pradesh. Both matches are expected to deliver thrilling competition.
The Karnataka State Disabled Cricket Association is hosting this championship, which is affiliated with the Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India (PCCAI). PCCAI is also a founding member of the Disabled Cricket Council of India (DCCI).
DCCI Secretary Ravi Chauhan highlighted the emergence of many talented players in this year’s championship, including under-19 cricketers. Their performance has been impressive and encouraging for the future of disability cricket in India.
Chauhan further announced plans for the association to organize an under-19 national championship in the near future, providing young disabled cricketers with better opportunities to showcase their talent on a national stage.
Discussing the future of disability cricket, Chauhan stated that the organization is committed not only to hosting tournaments but also to empowering disabled athletes economically and socially. Plans are underway to hold larger national and international tournaments in the coming years, aiming to provide players with greater recognition, improved facilities, and stronger financial support.
He also mentioned that the association will formally reach out to the BCCI through official communication, advocating for better support for disability cricket in India. The primary goal of this proposal is to offer physically challenged cricketers enhanced opportunities, infrastructure, and financial assistance, enabling the sport to reach new heights across the country.
Chauhan confirmed that all teams participating in the championship will receive awards, with the tournament final scheduled for Sunday.
