Kuala Lumpur, May 23: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim spoke with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Friday, congratulating him on his recent appointment.
During the phone call, PM Ibrahim expressed his intention to visit India in September for the BRICS Summit, where he will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ibrahim shared on social media platform X, “Today, I spoke with my friend Chief Minister Vijay and once again congratulated him on his significant responsibility for the people of Tamil Nadu.”
He added, “I informed him that I will be attending the BRICS Summit in September and, if possible, I would like to make a brief visit to Tamil Nadu. I wish CM Vijay continued strength and understanding in leading and governing for the welfare of the people and a bright future for Tamil Nadu.”
This marks the second time in less than two weeks that Ibrahim has congratulated Vijay on his electoral victory. Previously, on May 12, he had acknowledged Vijay’s win and emphasized the deep historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu.
PM Ibrahim posted on X, “I sincerely congratulate my friend Vijay on being elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. For years, his fans have witnessed him defeat corrupt leaders and various villains in just three hours. The people of Tamil Nadu have entrusted Vijay with a responsibility far greater than any role he has played on screen. Oru Viral Purachi (a finger revolution) is now on the brink of making history.”
He further stated, “There have been deep historical, cultural, and people-to-people connections between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu for generations. I look forward to working with Chief Minister Vijay in the coming years.”
India will chair the BRICS summit in 2026 under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,’ reflecting the people-centered and humanity-first perspective highlighted by Prime Minister Modi at the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
