Senior Officials Hold 26th Meeting on South China Sea Action Declaration

Beijing, May 22: China and ASEAN countries convened the 26th meeting of senior officials on the implementation of the South China Sea Action Declaration in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on May 21.

Participants emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the South China Sea. They reiterated their commitment to effectively implement the declaration, enhance dialogue and coordination, exercise restraint in resolving differences, deepen practical maritime cooperation, and ensure stability in the region.

The officials praised the progress made in consultations regarding the rules of conduct in the South China Sea and agreed to continue these discussions to finalize the rules as soon as possible.

From May 22 to 23, China and ASEAN countries will hold the 55th meeting of the joint working group to implement the declaration and advance consultations on the rules of conduct in the South China Sea.
