Ayushman Bharat Achieves Milestone: Over 1 Billion Health Records Linked to ABHA Accounts

New Delhi, May 23: The Ayushman Bharat healthcare initiative has taken a significant leap towards expanding digital access by linking over 1 billion health records to Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA).

Several states in India, particularly those with a Hindi-speaking population, have excelled in linking health records under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Notable states include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat.

This achievement marks a crucial step in building an integrated, citizen-centric, and interconnected digital healthcare ecosystem in the country.

A remarkable aspect of ABDM is the substantial increase in registrations over the past few months. Estimates suggest that the number of linked records has doubled in the last 18 months.

According to a statement from the ministry, “ABDM has increased the number of linked health records from 500 million in February 2025 to over 1 billion in just 15 months. Approximately 100 million health records are being linked every two to three months. From fewer than 1,000 linked records in the initial phase to over 1 billion today, ABDM has become one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems.”

Implemented by the National Health Authority under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, this project reflects the growing adoption of ABDM among government health programs, state health platforms, public digital systems, and private health technology partners.

Currently, more than 450 public and private health technology solutions have successfully integrated with the ABDM ecosystem.

Notably, ABHA serves as a unique digital health identity, enabling citizens to securely link and access their health records across hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and healthcare providers.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority, commented on this significant achievement, stating, “Linking over 1 billion health records to ABHA is a major milestone in the journey of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. It demonstrates the growing use of digital health services among government programs, states, health centers, and private technology partners. Health records linked to ABHA empower citizens by providing secure and consent-based access to their health information, helping maintain continuity of care across the healthcare system.”
