Jamui, May 23: In a shocking incident in Jamui district of Bihar, a 35-year-old man named Jitendra Pandit was allegedly murdered by family members while living at his in-laws’ home in Kala village. The police have arrested four women in connection with the case.
Authorities reported that the accused buried the body in a three-foot-deep pit behind the house and added approximately 15 packets of salt to hasten decomposition. The foul smell from the grave led to a tip-off for the police, who recovered the body on Friday.
Jitendra Pandit was originally from Madhupur in Jharkhand. He married Rajni Devi from Kala village about ten years ago and had been living with his in-laws shortly after their marriage. The couple had two young children: a five-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.
According to police, a dispute arose within the family on Wednesday, resulting in a violent altercation that left Jitendra severely injured and ultimately led to his death. Instead of notifying the authorities, the family attempted to conceal the body by digging a grave and using salt to mask the odor.
Acting on a tip-off, police recovered the body on Friday. The deceased’s wife, Rajni Devi, along with her mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and sister, have been taken into custody for questioning. All four women have been arrested.
Rajni informed the police that her husband was an alcoholic and was intoxicated on the day of the incident, causing a disturbance at home. She claimed he fell from the roof, resulting in his death, and denied any allegations of extramarital affairs involving other women. However, villagers suggest that the root of the conflict may lie in family disputes and possibly issues related to women.
Jamui Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satish Suman stated, “At first glance, this appears to be a case of death resulting from a family dispute. The family attempted to hide evidence. We have retrieved the body from the pit and sent it to Jamui Sadar Hospital. A forensic team has been called in. The exact cause of death and evidence of the assault will be determined after the post-mortem report.”
