Maharashtra Aims for a $1 Trillion Economy, Says Eknath Shinde

Mumbai, May 23: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed confidence on Friday that Maharashtra is making significant strides towards a $1 trillion economy through heavy industries, modern infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, skill development, housing, and environmentally friendly projects. He stated that this comprehensive development plan will propel the state’s economy towards its ambitious target.

During a press session, Shinde highlighted that as Maharashtra rapidly progresses towards the vision of ‘Developed India 2047’, the state is set to construct a new expressway connecting Mumbai to Surjagadh in Gadchiroli.

He provided a detailed overview of the state’s advancements in infrastructure, heavy industries, housing, transportation, environment, and socio-economic transformation in remote areas like Gadchiroli. Emphasizing the financial hub of Mumbai and the natural and industrial wealth of remote regions, Shinde noted that the government’s focus is on decentralized development. This approach ensures that growth extends beyond major metropolitan areas to enrich rural, tribal, and underdeveloped regions.

Initiatives such as the Prosperity Highway, expanded metro network, Navi Mumbai International Airport, industrial corridors, integrated steel plants, and skill development centers have significantly boosted job creation and paved the way for development from coastal to forest areas.

Shinde announced the approval of an 85-kilometer greenfield road project to facilitate the transportation of minerals from the Surjagadh mining area. This corridor will connect directly to the ongoing Prosperity Highway, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Gadchiroli to just nine to ten hours. Additionally, a new airport project in Gadchiroli has received structural approval.

He also mentioned that approximately ₹4 lakh crore worth of infrastructure projects are currently under construction in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Key projects include the Atal Setu, Mumbai Coastal Road, bullet train, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Metro Line 3, and the vast Vadhavan Port.
