
New Delhi, May 23: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to embark on a four-day visit to India. According to U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, Rubio has departed from Sweden and is en route to India.
This marks Rubio’s first trip to India. Gor shared on X, “I just received a call from Secretary Rubio; he is on his way to India. Excited for this important visit.”
The Ministry of External Affairs has released the schedule for Rubio’s visit. He is expected to arrive in Kolkata at 7 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and will then reach Delhi at 1:15 PM. A meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for 2 PM.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, Rubio will hold a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House at 11:30 AM. Later that day, he will attend a Fourth of July celebration at the U.S. Embassy at 6:20 PM.
On Monday, May 25, he will participate in an event in Agra at 9 AM, followed by another program in Jaipur at 1 PM.
On the final day, Tuesday, May 26, Rubio will arrive in New Delhi at 6:50 AM. He will participate in a family photo at 8:30 AM, followed by a Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting at Hyderabad House at 9 AM. A press statement will be issued at 9:50 AM, and Rubio will depart for the U.S. at 11 AM.
The U.S. Embassy stated that Rubio’s upcoming visit underscores the significance of the Quad partnership. The Embassy noted, “United for a free and open Indo-Pacific. From regional security to diversifying critical mineral supply chains, Secretary Rubio’s visit highlights the importance of Quad partnership.”
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Quad includes India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, aiming to collaborate for global welfare and ensure a free, open, inclusive, prosperous, and resilient Indo-Pacific region.
India will host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on May 26. Rubio will join Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi at the invitation of the Indian External Affairs Minister.
Before his visit to India, Rubio expressed that the U.S. aims to expand energy relations with New Delhi and strengthen coordination through the Quad. He referred to India as a “great ally” and “great partner.”
In a conversation with reporters in Miami, Rubio stated that amid tensions in the Middle East and global energy supply crises linked to the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. is prepared to export more energy to India.
He added, “We are willing to sell India as much energy as it needs. The U.S. is currently producing and exporting energy at historic levels, and we want to increase that.”
