
New Delhi, May 23: India is set to assume the presidency of BRICS this year, with the summit scheduled for September 2026. Prior to this, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with participants of the BRICS Youth Diplomats Forum and heads of the Diplomatic Academy.
Minister Jaishankar expressed his enthusiasm on social media platform X, stating, “Today, I had the pleasure of engaging with participants of the BRICS Youth Diplomats Forum and heads of the Diplomatic Academy in Delhi. We exchanged ideas on the themes of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability, and their contributions to global development.”
Additionally, a meeting of the Quad foreign ministers is set to take place in India. In response to Minister Jaishankar’s invitation, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will officially visit New Delhi on May 26 for the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit underscores the ongoing high-level engagement among Quad partners and strengthens their shared vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
An official statement noted, “In line with the Quad vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific, all ministers will build on discussions held in Washington, D.C. on July 1, 2025. They will exchange views on advancing Quad cooperation in key areas, review ongoing Quad initiatives, and discuss recent developments and other international issues of mutual concern in the Indo-Pacific region.”
The meeting is expected to focus on key areas of collaboration, including maritime security, resilient supply chains, infrastructure development, essential and emerging technologies, climate-related actions, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief. The ongoing Quad initiatives aimed at enhancing regional stability and economic growth will also be reviewed.
During their visit, the foreign ministers of Australia and Japan, along with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Minister Jaishankar, are expected to hold bilateral meetings. They also plan to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their stay in the national capital.
The Quad meeting comes at a time when geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific are rapidly changing. Member countries aim to deepen cooperation and coordination on shared regional and global challenges.
