The PAK vs SL T20 Tri-Series final played on Saturday night, November 29, at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium witnessed dramatic scenes when Pakistani players clashed with umpires over a controversial catch decision. Pakistan, led by Salman Agha, won the match by 6 wickets to claim the series, but the spotlight remained on the heated exchange between players and match officials.

The incident occurred during the 19th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when Fakhar Zaman took what appeared to be a spectacular catch to dismiss Dasun Shanaka. Shaheen Afridi had bowled a slower delivery to Shanaka, who attempted to flick the ball. The ball caught the outer edge of his bat and flew towards short third man, where Fakhar ran backwards and timed his jump perfectly to complete what looked like an outstanding catch.

Initially, the on-field umpires believed Shanaka was out, but they referred the decision to the third umpire for confirmation. Television replays revealed that while Fakhar had caught the ball, it touched the ground when he landed, leading the third umpire to overturn the decision and declare Shanaka not out.

This decision clearly upset all Pakistani players, with Fakhar Zaman leading the protests. He argued with the umpires for several minutes, gesturing that he had maintained complete control over the ball throughout the catch attempt. During this heated exchange, both Shaheen Afridi and captain Salman Agha also lost their composure and joined the argument with match officials.

Despite the Pakistani team’s strong protests, the umpires stood firm on their decision, and the players eventually had to calm down and accept the ruling. The controversy highlighted the intense emotions and high stakes involved in the final match of the series.

Regarding the match itself, Sri Lanka, batting first after losing the toss, managed only 114 runs. Kamil Mishara top-scored with 59 runs, but no other batsman could reach even 15 runs. Seven Sri Lankan batsmen were dismissed in single digits, exposing their batting struggles.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz were the standout bowlers, each claiming three wickets to restrict Sri Lanka to a modest total. Pakistan comfortably chased down the target of 115 runs with 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

Saim Ayub gave Pakistan a solid start with 36 runs, while star player Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 37 runs to guide his team home. The victory capped off a successful campaign for Pakistan in the tri-series, despite the controversial moments that overshadowed parts of the final.
