New Delhi, May 19: World number 2 player Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from both Wimbledon and the Queens Club Championship. He is currently recovering from an ongoing injury to his right wrist. Alcaraz announced his decision via a post on X.
Alcaraz stated, “My recovery is going well, and I feel much better. Unfortunately, I am still not fully ready to compete. Therefore, I must withdraw from the grass-court season at Queens and Wimbledon. Both tournaments are very special to me, and I will miss them greatly. We are working hard to return as soon as possible.”
In 2026, Alcaraz’s struggle with injuries has kept him out of major tournaments. He has not played any competitive matches since his injury worsened during the clay-court season earlier this year. Alcaraz had already withdrawn from the Italian Open and the French Open. He won the French Open title in 2025, defeating world number 1 Jannik Sinner in the final.
Alcaraz withdrew from the tournament after receiving treatment for his right wrist and arm during his first-round match at the Barcelona Open. He also did not participate in the Madrid Open. Wimbledon will be the third Grand Slam tournament that Alcaraz has missed in his career. Before withdrawing from the upcoming French Open, the Spanish player had also pulled out of the Australian Open earlier in 2023 due to a hamstring injury.
Earlier this year, Alcaraz was named ‘Sportsman of the Year’ at the 2026 Laureus Awards ceremony, where he was seen with a bandage on his right wrist. Following this event, he mentioned that he would be missing major Grand Slams on the advice of his medical team.
