
Jaipur, May 20: The selection of all-rounder Manav Suthar for the upcoming Test series against Afghanistan has sparked a wave of joy and pride throughout Rajasthan. Suthar has become the first cricketer from Rajasthan to be chosen for India’s Test team in the last 12 years.
Welcoming the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior selection committee, Mohit Jaswant Yadav, the convenor of the Rajasthan Cricket Association’s ad-hoc committee, congratulated Suthar on this achievement and wished him a bright and successful international career. Yadav expressed that this selection has created immense happiness in the Rajasthan cricket community and is a proud moment for the state.
The first match of the Test series between India and Afghanistan is set to take place on June 6 in Mullanpur. Prior to Suthar’s selection, Rajasthan had produced only a handful of Test cricketers. Notable names include Salim Durani, who represented India from 1959-60 to 1972-73, playing 29 Test matches, scoring 1,202 runs, and taking 75 wickets.
Additionally, Hanumant Singh played 14 Tests between 1963-64 and 1969-70, scoring 686 runs. Parthasarathi Sharma participated in five Tests from 1974-75 to 1976-77, accumulating 187 runs. Pankaj Singh played two Tests during the 2014-15 season, claiming two wickets.
Manav Suthar’s domestic cricket record is impressive across all formats. He has scored 945 runs and taken 129 wickets in 29 first-class matches. In List A cricket, he has played 25 matches, scoring 350 runs and taking 34 wickets. Suthar has also participated in 29 T20 matches, scoring 94 runs and claiming 25 wickets.
