Beijing, April 3: The Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation held a press conference on April 2, revealing significant growth in the express delivery sector. The average annual usage of express delivery per capita in China surged from 59 in 2020 to 141 in 2025.
During the conference, Xu Huairong, Deputy Director of the Policy and Regulation Department of the State Post Bureau, reported that the revenue of China’s postal and express delivery industry increased from 1.1 trillion yuan in 2020 to 1.8 trillion yuan by 2025. This period saw an average annual growth rate exceeding 10 percent.
To support and guide high-quality development in the industry, China has introduced over 30 standards in recent years, focusing on areas such as safety and environmental protection. These standards are designed to create a favorable environment for sustainable and orderly development within the sector.
To ensure delivery safety, two mandatory national standards have been implemented: the “Postal Industry Safety Production Operation Specifications” and the “Postal Industry Safety Production Equipment Configuration Specifications.”
Additionally, standards have been established to protect the personal information of delivery service users. These include the “Express Electronic Waybill” and “Requirements for the Protection of Personal Information of Delivery Service Users.” Under these standards, it is now mandatory to partially obscure the names, phone numbers, and addresses of senders and recipients on express electronic waybills.
