Iran Implements New Regulations in the Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, May 18: Iran has announced the implementation of new regulations in the Strait of Hormuz. A new authority has been established to monitor maritime operations in real-time. The Supreme National Security Council shared this information via a social media post.

The newly formed body, named the “Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA),” will manage one of the world’s most crucial maritime trade routes. The council stated that this organization will provide “real-time updates” on operations and recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz.

This decision comes amid rising tensions and concerns over maritime security in the Middle East. Reports from Israeli media claim that U.S. aircraft carrying a significant amount of weapons have arrived in Israel, and the Israeli military has been placed on high alert.

The PGSA will share information related to monitoring and managing maritime activities. Iran had previously indicated that new transit rules and a permit system for ships would be implemented.

Just two days ago, Tehran discussed a new system. According to Iran, this system will not be available to those associated with the so-called Freedom Project.

Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, shared his plans on the social media platform X. He wrote, “Iran has developed a professional mechanism for traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz under the guarantee of our national sovereignty and the security of international trade, which will be made public soon. Only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran will benefit from this process.”

Azizi noted that specific fees would be charged for these services. Additionally, this route will remain closed to operators of the so-called Freedom Project.
