Five Arrested in Greater Noida for Robbing Passersby Under the Guise of Offering Rides

Greater Noida, May 18: The Surajpur police in Greater Noida have arrested five individuals from an organized gang involved in robbing passersby under the pretense of offering lifts. The police seized 20 mobile phones, two cars used in the crimes, cash, two firearms, cartridges, and three knives from the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ankit Singh, Deepanshu, Tarun Thakur, Nawab Bhati alias Sandeep Bhati, and Mohit Rajput. They were apprehended near Sector Eta-01. During police interrogation, it was revealed that this gang operated at night in Noida, Greater Noida, and the NCR region. They would offer lifts to unsuspecting individuals, then assault them to steal mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.

Investigations indicated that the suspects deliberately swerved their vehicles to target taxi drivers. When the drivers attempted to stop or resist, the gang would verbally abuse and physically assault them to steal their mobile phones, cash, and essential belongings. After committing the crimes, they would also take the keys of the taxi to prevent the victims from pursuing them.

On May 16, 2026, a similar incident occurred near Sector Eta-01, where the gang assaulted a taxi driver, stealing his mobile phone, ₹5,000, and the car keys. A case was registered at the Surajpur police station regarding this incident.

During the investigation, police gathered intelligence on the gang’s activities and arrested the suspects with the help of local informants. The suspects admitted to primarily using rented vehicles for their crimes.

After the incidents, the vehicles were returned to their owners, complicating police efforts to track down the gang. The police recovered the Venue and Thar cars used in the robberies.

Authorities stated that Mohit Rajput and others had previous criminal records. The police are now investigating other members of the gang and additional incidents linked to them. Efforts are also underway to identify other victims based on the recovered mobile phones.
