Oslo, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in Norway, a visit expected to strengthen the ties between the two nations. Significant agreements are anticipated across various sectors. According to Me-Aline Steiner, the Swedish Ambassador to India, this visit has been highly awaited.
In an exclusive interview, Steiner stated, “We have been eagerly looking forward to this trip. It has been 43 years since an Indian Prime Minister last visited Norway. Clearly, this is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit, making it very significant for us.”
During this visit, several important agreements are likely to be finalized. Steiner mentioned, “A business conference will be held, where multiple MOUs will be signed, primarily focusing on energy, climate, and marine sectors.”
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Oslo on Monday, where he was welcomed by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Modi expressed his gratitude on the social media platform X for the warm reception.
He wrote, “I have arrived in Norway. I am thankful to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre for the warm welcome at the airport. This marks the first Prime Ministerial visit to Norway in over four decades. I believe this trip will inject new energy into India-Norway friendship. I will meet His Majesty King Harald V and Queen Sonja, as well as engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Støre. On the 19th, the third India-Nordic Summit will take place in Oslo, providing a crucial opportunity to meet my Nordic counterparts.”
The Nordic summit will also see participation from top leaders of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden. The inaugural India-Nordic summit took place in Stockholm in 2018, followed by the second in Copenhagen in 2022.
This meeting is expected to address critical issues such as green energy, digitalization, defense cooperation, space technology, Arctic policy, and sustainable development.
