New Delhi, May 18: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested another key suspect in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, Professor Shivraj Motegaonkar. He is the owner of the RCC Coaching Institute in Latur, which prepares students for the NEET-UG exam. The institute operates nine branches, with its main location in Latur. Professor Motegaonkar is closely associated with P.V. Kulkarni, a chemistry lecturer linked to the National Testing Agency (NTA). During searches at his institute and residence, a chemistry question paper was recovered, containing questions similar to those asked in the NEET exam held on May 3.
In the past 24 hours, the CBI conducted searches at five locations, seizing several incriminating documents, laptops, and mobile phones. A detailed analysis of the seized items is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that the CBI registered the case on May 12, based on a written complaint from the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education regarding the alleged paper leak. Following the registration, special teams were formed, and searches were conducted across various locations in the country, resulting in the detention and questioning of several suspects.
So far, ten suspects have been arrested from locations including Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Nashik, Pune, Latur, and Ahilyanagar. Previously, nine suspects were presented in court and have been taken into police custody for ongoing questioning. The tenth suspect is currently being presented in court.
The special teams continue their investigation and have identified the actual source of the leaked chemistry and biology question papers distributed before the exam. Additionally, intermediaries involved in recruiting students who paid substantial amounts to enroll in special coaching classes to learn and discuss the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 exam questions have also been arrested.
The CBI is committed to conducting a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation into this matter.
