
Beirut, May 17: The Indian Army’s battalion INDBATT XXVI, deployed in southern Lebanon under the United Nations mission, has been honored for its exceptional service. This recognition was announced by the Indian Embassy in Lebanon.
The battalion, stationed in an area heavily affected by Israeli attacks, has achieved a historic milestone by receiving the prestigious citation from the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for the second time during its year-long deployment in challenging and hostile conditions.
The award was presented by Sector East Commander Antonio R. Bernal Martin, acknowledging the battalion’s outstanding professional capability, operational performance, and unwavering dedication to the mission.
The Indian Embassy in Lebanon shared on social media that Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh participated in the Medal Day Parade for INDBATT XXVI, congratulating Colonel N. Gladson and the 4 Grenadiers Infantry Battalion Group for their remarkable achievement in such a difficult environment.
The embassy further stated that the commendation was awarded by Major General Antonio R. Bernal Martin in recognition of the battalion’s exceptional professionalism, operational excellence, and steadfast commitment to the mission.
It is noteworthy that INDBATT XXVI is the 26th contingent of the Indian battalion deployed as part of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. The primary responsibilities of INDBATT XXVI (Madras Regiment) include maintaining peace, conducting regular patrols, and providing medical and humanitarian assistance to local communities when needed. The battalion also includes a ‘Women Participation Team.’
