Indian Minister Pabitra Margerita Visits Dominica, Reaffirms Support for Kalinago Community

Roseau, May 17: Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, recently visited the Kalinago Territory in Dominica. During her visit, she expressed India’s commitment to supporting the community through a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) based in New Delhi.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Margerita stated, “I was delighted to visit the beautiful Kalinago Territory, home to the indigenous Kalinago community. India is committed to supporting this community through our partnership with UNDP.”

She further emphasized, “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is dedicated to deepening its friendship with Dominica, founded on shared democratic values and South-South cooperation.”

Margerita also toured three Quick Impact Project (QIP) sites in Grand Bay and Saint Fond Jean, highlighting that these grants demonstrate India’s ongoing commitment to community development in Dominica.

She posted on X, “I was pleased to visit three Quick Impact Project sites in Grand Bay and Saint Fond Jean. These timely grants reflect India’s continued commitment to supporting community development in Dominica. I am grateful for the excellent collaboration with Honorable Dr. Vince Henderson and the government of Dominica. Let us work together for development and prosperity.”

Earlier, on Saturday, Minister Margerita met with Dominica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy, Vince Henderson, to discuss strengthening partnerships across various sectors.

In a post on X, she wrote, “I was happy to meet with Dominica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy, Vince Henderson. We exchanged ideas on strengthening partnerships in several areas. I was also pleased to sign an MoU on pharmacopoeia and another MoU on a Quick Impact Project. I had the opportunity to discuss with the Minister of Health and Agriculture during the meeting.”

In another post, Margerita expressed her honor in meeting Dominica’s first female President, Silvani Burton, who hails from the indigenous Kalinago community. She conveyed greetings from India’s President and Prime Minister and discussed ways to further strengthen the ties between the two nations.

Pabitra Margerita arrived in Dominica on Friday after concluding her tour of Honduras and Belize, where she was welcomed by Dominica’s Foreign Minister, Vince Henderson.
