Arrest of Deepak Singla Sparks Political Tensions in Goa

New Delhi, May 18: The arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) co-in-charge Deepak Singla and the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) raids on his properties have intensified the political climate in Goa. AAP has accused the central BJP government of misusing federal agencies to target opposition leaders for political reasons.

AAP’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, stated that Singla’s arrest was not due to any wrongdoing but rather because he opposed the BJP and refused to join the party. He emphasized that leaders like Singla and Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, Sanjeev Arora, are brave patriots, and the public stands with them.

Atishi, AAP’s Goa in-charge and leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, pointed out that serious issues such as unemployment, inflation, rising fuel prices, and the depreciating rupee exist in the country. However, she claimed the central government is focused on taking action against opposition leaders instead. She suggested that the BJP is anxious about AAP’s growing popularity in Goa and is using agencies in anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections.

Atishi further alleged that similar tactics were employed during the West Bengal assembly elections, where central agencies were used against opposition parties. She claimed that raids were conducted to gather electoral strategies and data, and that such actions are now being repeated in Goa, affecting not only prominent leaders but also ordinary party workers.

AAP leader Manish Sisodia took to social media platform X, stating that the BJP is attempting to weaken the opposition electorally through the misuse of central agencies, but this will not halt the country’s economic challenges or the rupee’s decline.

Additionally, Saurabh Bhardwaj accused the ED, CBI, and other agencies of persistently harassing AAP leaders. He remarked that the raids conducted in Delhi and Goa appear to be acts of political vengeance.

AAP has made it clear that it will not be intimidated by these actions and will continue its political campaign against the BJP government in Goa.
