British bicycle maker Muddyfox has officially entered the Indian market by launching 18 new bicycle models in partnership with Ananta Ventures, its exclusive distributor in India. This collaboration aims to strengthen Muddyfox’s presence across various segments and age groups in the country.
Exclusive Partnership with Ananta Ventures
Muddyfox has signed an agreement with Ananta Ventures, a company known for its strong dealer network and existing homegrown brands Roam and Kylon. Ananta Ventures will now market and sell Muddyfox bicycles alongside its current offerings, thereby expanding its product portfolio and consumer reach in India.
Sahil Mehrotra, Managing Director of Muddyfox Asia Pacific, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “We are happy to announce the association with Ananta Ventures. Together, we will work to establish a strong market base in India. While our products currently reflect a strong European influence, collaborating with Ananta will help us understand and adapt to the specific needs of Indian consumers.”
Wide Range of Models to Cater to Diverse Consumers
The initial launch includes 18 bicycle models covering multiple segments such as mountain bikes (MTB), hybrid bikes, and children’s bicycles. Muddyfox plans to expand its range further based on consumer demand and market trends. The company also intends to introduce a variety of accessories to complement its bicycle sales.
Ajit Gandhi, Managing Partner of Ananta Ventures, highlighted the strategic advantage of adding Muddyfox to their portfolio: “With Roam and Kylon, we serve price-sensitive customers. Muddyfox brings a premium, high-quality brand that appeals to buyers seeking superior riding experiences. This addition will help us cater to a broader spectrum of consumers.”
Muddyfox’s Legacy and Market Position
Muddyfox is credited with introducing mountain biking to the UK and Europe during the 1980s, inspired by the off-roading trend in the United States. The brand gained significant popularity with durable frames and wider tyres suitable for rough terrains. In 1985, Muddyfox launched the ‘Courier,’ an affordable model that further boosted its market presence. By 1987, Muddyfox commanded around 50 percent of the UK mountain bike market, selling nearly 20,000 units annually. Within two years, sales reached close to 100,000 units per year. The company also pioneered the first-ever television commercial for a mountain bike, highlighting the adventurous spirit of off-road cycling.
