Washington, May 23: During a rally in the suburban area of New York, U.S. President Donald Trump harshly criticized sanctuary city policies and illegal immigration. He expressed support for Republican leaders and highlighted his administration’s economic agenda.
Speaking at the Eugene Levy Fieldhouse at Rockland Community College on Friday, Trump accused Democrats of driving businesses and taxpayers out of New York through high taxes and crime.
He told supporters, “Companies are leaving, wealthy people are leaving. If New York continues to lose its tax base, it will never be the same again.”
The President repeatedly condemned sanctuary city policies and linked illegal immigration to violent crime. He invited the family of 18-year-old college student Sheridan Gorman, who was killed in Chicago earlier this year, to join him on stage.
Sheridan’s mother, Jessica Gorman, shared, “My beloved daughter Sheridan Grace Gorman was brutally murdered while she was walking just blocks from her campus in Chicago with friends.”
Sheridan’s father, Tom Gorman, attributed the murder to failures in immigration and asylum laws. He stated, “Illegal immigration is different. Criminal illegal immigration is different. Borders matter, laws matter, and enforcement matters.”
Trump labeled the suspect as “an illegal immigrant monster” and insisted that he should never have been in the country.
He remarked, “New York State has passed a budget that includes provisions to obstruct federal immigration enforcement and maintain it as a sanctuary state.”
The President reiterated his campaign for the ‘Save America Act,’ demanding strict measures on voter identification, proof of citizenship, and mail-in voting. Trump stated, “Just think, voter ID, proof of citizenship, and mail-in ballots are almost gone, except in circumstances where they are truly needed.”
The rally continued to address issues such as immigration, taxes, and the economy. Trump praised lawmaker Mike Lawler for helping to restore state and local tax deductions (SALT), saying, “It was only possible with your help. We have cut your taxes.”
Lawler informed supporters that over 90% of his constituents received full deductions on their state and local taxes.
Trump further claimed, “American companies are ordering capital goods at the fastest rate in our nation’s history to expand their operations.”
He asserted, “In the past 12 months, we have not allowed a single illegal immigrant to enter America.”
The President also discussed foreign policy, asserting that Iran will never develop nuclear weapons. He claimed that following recent U.S. military operations, Tehran is eager to negotiate. He stated, “Their navy, air force, everything is gone.”
The event included emotional moments as Trump announced that Wells Crowther would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal for his heroism during the September 11 attacks, where he was known as the “man in the red bandana.”
Wells’ mother, Alison Crowther, thanked Trump for the honor, stating that her son’s story will inspire youth to “become better human beings.”
