Alwar, May 23: A serious accident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Alwar on Saturday morning when a sleeper bus overturned. All approximately 40 passengers on board were injured, with six reported to be in critical condition.
The incident took place at Chainage 139.6 in the Raini police station area. The sleeper coach was traveling from Shyopur in Madhya Pradesh to Govardhan in Uttar Pradesh when it lost control and flipped over, landing in a deep ditch by the roadside. Most passengers were en route to participate in the 84-kosi parikrama in Braj and to attend a Bhagwat Katha in Govardhan.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the bus to veer off course. Upon receiving news of the accident, Raini police promptly arrived at the scene. Under the leadership of Station House Officer Bane Singh Meena, rescue operations commenced immediately. With the assistance of NHAI ambulances, all injured individuals were transported to the Pinan Hospital for initial treatment. Doctors have referred the six critically injured passengers to Alwar for advanced care. Some other injured individuals are also reported to be in serious condition and may require further referrals.
Lalita Goyal, a resident of Gangapur City, shared her experience, stating she was traveling from Sawai Madhopur to attend the Bhagwat Katha in Govardhan when the accident occurred. “Suddenly, the bus overturned, and there was chaos. Many people were trapped under the bus,” she recounted.
The NHAI team and local administration used JCB machinery to remove the overturned bus. Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the causes of the accident. The condition of the bus driver is also reported to be critical.
This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and speeding on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Just a month ago, on April 30, a tragic fire in a CNG car on the same expressway claimed the lives of seven people.
