Kolkata, May 23: The debate surrounding the relaxation of animal slaughter rules during Eid-ul-Azha has intensified following comments from the Calcutta High Court regarding the West Bengal government. In response, Minister Dilip Ghosh emphasized that every person living in India understands the country’s culture and traditions, highlighting the cow’s special status in Indian society. He also addressed the recent rise in petrol and diesel prices and the alleged misuse of CCTV cameras on national highways.
In an exclusive interview with a news agency, Ghosh stated that just as the Ganges holds a unique status among rivers, the cow is equally revered among animals. He asserted that every Indian respects this sentiment. Those who disregard this belief will face legal consequences.
Ghosh further noted that the Calcutta High Court’s suggestion for the Bengal government to decide on the relaxation of animal slaughter rules for Eid-ul-Azha is a positive one. He mentioned that the government would consider it. However, he stressed that respecting traditions without any formal announcement is part of their culture and values. The reverence for cows must be maintained.
Regarding the recent hike in fuel prices, Ghosh explained that the global economic situation significantly impacts the economy. Diesel and petrol prices have been rising for years. The government has provided subsidies on fuel prices, but oil companies have exceeded their limits, leading to substantial losses. Consequently, the government had to increase prices. He urged the public to adapt and cut down on expenses.
On the alleged misuse of CCTV cameras on national highways and accusations of sharing information with Pakistan, Ghosh made a sharp remark. He pointed out that Bangladesh and Pakistan used to engage in such activities frequently but are now struggling with their own issues. Some individuals still attempt to create tension in India through such actions, but those days are over. The government is in power and will address all matters systematically.
Additionally, he accused several councilors and panchayat heads of not attending their offices. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for a meeting, but attendance has been low. No one seems to know their whereabouts. He claimed that rampant corruption has made them flee in fear of the public.
