New Delhi, May 23: The Purushottam month, also known as the extra month in the Hindu calendar, holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma. The ninth day of this month falls on May 24, 2026 (Sunday). This day is marked by several auspicious events, including the Abhijit Muhurat and Vijay Muhurat, which are considered highly favorable for religious activities, prayers, and starting new ventures.

The Purushottam month is particularly dear to Lord Vishnu and is also referred to as Adhik Maas, Mal Maas, and Lond Maas. It occurs approximately every three years.

Regarding auspicious timings, the Abhijit Muhurat will be from 11:51 AM to 12:46 PM. The Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will last from 2:51 AM to 5:26 AM on Sunday, while the Brahma Muhurat will be from 4:04 AM to 4:45 AM. The Vijay Muhurat is set for 2:35 PM to 3:30 PM, and the Ghodhuli Muhurat will occur from 7:09 PM to 7:29 PM. Additionally, the Amrit Kaal will be from 8:16 PM to 9:54 PM, during which any auspicious work can be performed.

On the other hand, the inauspicious Rahu Kaal will take place from 5:27 PM to 7:10 PM, and it is advisable to avoid any auspicious activities or travel during this time. Other unfavorable periods include Yamgand from 12:18 PM to 2:01 PM, Gulik Kaal from 3:44 PM to 5:27 PM, and Durmuhurt from 5:20 PM to 6:15 PM.

On Sunday, sunrise will be at 5:26 AM, and sunset will occur at 7:10 PM. The Nakshatra for the ninth day will be Purvaphalguni until 2:51 AM on May 24, after which Uttaraphalguni will take over. Harshan Yoga will last until 3:45 AM, and Karan Balav will be in effect until 4:23 PM, followed by Koulav.

During the Purushottam month, special prayers are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Observing fasts and singing hymns dedicated to Lord Hari is believed to yield significant benefits.
