Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Young Life at Indira Dam

Lucknow, May 23: A young man tragically drowned while swimming at Indira Dam in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, as a means to escape the heat. Police arrived at the scene and sent the body for post-mortem while notifying the family.

Authorities reported that on Friday afternoon, the BBD police station received a call about a person drowning at Indira Dam. The officer in charge, along with police personnel, rushed to the location and retrieved the submerged individual, identified as 28-year-old Suraj Kumar, son of Ramswaroop, a resident of Sarai Sheikh in the BBD area. When pulled from the water, he was still breathing and was immediately taken to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.

Unfortunately, doctors later declared Suraj Kumar dead after examination. Following this, the body was sent for post-mortem after completing necessary formalities. Family members were present at both the scene and the hospital, devastated by the sudden loss of their son.

Earlier, on May 17, a similar tragedy occurred in Fatehpur district, where four young men drowned in the Yamuna River while two others were rescued but remained in critical condition. This incident took place in Kunwa Ka Dera village in the Lalauali police station area when six youths entered the river to swim and were swept away by strong currents. The deceased were identified as Hasibuddin, Shahid, Ansh, and Shan from Tapni village. Officials confirmed that all four drowned at the scene, while local divers and villagers managed to save the other two.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when entering rivers and water bodies, as water levels and currents can be unpredictable.
