Grand Bhasma Aarti at Baba Mahakal on Jyestha Adhik Maas Saptami

Ujjain, May 23: A massive influx of devotees gathered at the world-renowned Baba Mahakaleshwar temple early in the morning on the auspicious occasion of Jyestha Adhik Maas Shukla Paksha Saptami. The temple resonated with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” during the celebrated Bhasma Aarti.

Devotees from across the country and abroad were filled with enthusiasm to catch a glimpse of Baba Mahakal. Those waiting in line for darshan were deeply immersed in devotion. As the temple doors opened for the Bhasma Aarti, the wait was over, and devotees were overwhelmed with joy at the sight of their deity.

According to tradition, the temple doors were first opened after seeking permission from Lord Veerabhadra. Following this, the Mahanirvani Akhara performed the water abhishek, followed by a ceremonial bath with Panchamrit. After the bath, Baba Mahakal was adorned in a stunning and divine manner. During the special Saturday adornment, the moon, trident, and the symbol of ‘Om’ were beautifully placed on Baba’s head.

After the abhishek, the grand Bhasma Aarti took place. During this ritual, ashes were offered to Baba, and the aarti was performed. It is believed that during the Bhasma Aarti, Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees. Once the adornment was complete, the ashes were applied to Baba by the Mahanirvani Akhara.

Following this, the temple echoed with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” Devotees from every corner of the nation participated in the Bhasma Aarti, receiving Baba Mahakal’s blessings. The entire temple complex was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and chanting, creating an atmosphere of devotion and faith.

Long queues of devotees are a common sight at the temple. On regular days, it takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get darshan in the general queue. However, the crowd can be significantly larger during festivals and holidays.
