
New Delhi, May 23: Police have apprehended the main suspect in the brutal murder of a mother and her son in Govindpuri following an encounter. The suspect was injured in the leg during a retaliatory gunfire exchange with the police and has been hospitalized.
According to reports, 40-year-old Sharda Devi lived with her husband and family in Gali No. 10 of the Govindpuri police station area. Her husband runs a vegetable business. On Wednesday night, Sharda Devi was home alone with her 14-year-old son, Khushal, while her husband was at his shop. During this time, an intruder entered their home and viciously murdered both with a sharp weapon.
When the father returned home, he found his wife and son covered in blood in the kitchen. He immediately called the police to report the incident. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene, took possession of the bodies, and initiated a search for the suspect.
Under the leadership of Vishnu Tiwari, head of the Narcotics Squad in the southeastern district, the police team successfully arrested the main accused during an encounter. When the police surrounded the suspect, he opened fire, prompting a return of gunfire from the police, resulting in the suspect being shot in the leg and falling to the ground. He has since been taken to the hospital. The suspect has been identified as Saurabh.
On May 20, another incident occurred in the Welcome area of Northeast Delhi, where a young man was shot dead. The victim was identified as 22-year-old Amanullah Qureshi. Police reported that they received information about gunfire in the Welcome police station area during the night of May 19-20. Upon arrival at the scene near Shyam Lal College, they learned that the injured Amanullah Qureshi, a resident of Gurudwara Mohalla, Maujpur, had already been taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by his relatives, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
