
Mumbai, May 3: The demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in India has surged in recent years. Tata Motors has emerged as a clear leader in this segment. In the first four months of 2026, from January to April, Tata Motors maintained its top position, securing 31,604 new customers. The company holds the largest share in the total EV market.
MG Motors ranked second, selling 19,036 units during the same period. March was particularly strong for MG, with sales reaching 5,550 units. Mahindra followed closely in third place, with a total of 18,153 electric vehicles sold, experiencing significant growth in March and April.
In fourth place, VinFast made a surprising entry by selling 2,840 units. Maruti Suzuki ranked fifth, achieving a remarkable increase in sales to 2,667 units in April compared to previous months.
Hyundai and BYD were in fierce competition, with Hyundai selling 1,707 units, while BYD recorded 1,502 units sold. Kia followed with 1,443 units, and PCA managed to sell 111 units.
Overall, the first four months of 2026 saw a total of 79,063 electric vehicles sold in India. March recorded the highest sales, with 23,097 units, followed by April with 22,677 units. Tata Motors continues to lead the market, but the entry of new brands has made the competition more exciting.
