Kolkata, May 31: The second phase of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government formation in West Bengal is set to conclude on Monday with a cabinet expansion. A total of 35 new ministers will take their oaths of office.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on the social media platform X that the state cabinet will be expanded, with the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 11 AM at Nabanna, the state secretariat. Governor R.N. Ravi will administer the oath to the new ministers.
Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as Chief Minister on May 9, marking a historic shift in the state’s politics. This is the first time the BJP has formed a government in West Bengal with a clear majority, ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress in the 294-member assembly.
The grand oath-taking ceremony at Brigade Parade Ground saw Governor R.N. Ravi swear in Suvendu Adhikari as Chief Minister, alongside five other leaders: Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik.
With this cabinet expansion, the BJP government aims to strengthen its administrative team. Political analysts believe that the inclusion of new ministers will help the government represent various sectors and social classes. This oath-taking ceremony at Nabanna is considered a significant political and administrative step for the new BJP government in West Bengal.
