Bhopal, May 31: A heartbreaking incident occurred in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh, where a 32-year-old mother took her own life after allegedly poisoning her three minor daughters. This tragic event unfolded in Hirwar village, under the jurisdiction of the Papoundh police station.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Anita Singh and her daughters: seven-year-old Ritika, four-year-old Krishna Kumari, and two-year-old Arpita. All four succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at a local hospital, leaving the village in deep sorrow and mourning.
Initial police investigations reveal that Anita Singh lived alone with her three children. Her husband, a professional driver, worked in another state to support the family financially. Anita struggled to make ends meet through daily wage labor.
Villagers described the family as ordinary, noting that there were no visible signs of distress in the days leading up to the incident. Reports indicate that Anita first consumed pesticide before forcing her young daughters to drink it as well. As the poison took effect, the family began to lose consciousness.
One of the daughters managed to communicate with neighbors, informing them that their mother had given them all the bitter medicine. Alarmed by the child’s revelation, neighbors and relatives rushed the victims to a nearby hospital. However, the poison had already spread through their bodies. Anita Singh was the first to die, followed by her three innocent daughters in quick succession. The deaths of four family members have cast a pall over the village.
The police have launched a thorough investigation into the case. Officials are exploring potential causes, including financial difficulties, mental health issues, or domestic problems that may have led Anita to take such drastic action.
So far, no suicide note has been found. This tragic case highlights the urgent need for mental health awareness and robust support systems for rural women in India, who often face economic and emotional challenges.
